The #1 reason belongings become damaged during a move is due to improperly self packed boxes. Your professional moving crew always treats your boxes and belongings with extreme care, but unfortunately when items are improperly packed vibrations and shifting during relocation can cause damage. Here are a few examples of packing issues and how to avoid them:
1) Using boxes that are not made for moving. Moving boxes are made to be stacked, some boxes are too weak to withstand stacking and collapse under the weight. Moving boxes come in uniform sizes. Using many odd shaped and different sized boxes makes it difficult to properly pack a moving truck. Professionals load the truck as solid as they can from floor to ceiling and front to back to minimize shifting during the drive.
2) Over packed and over weighted boxes. Boxes are designed as follows: Small boxes: Heavy and fragile items such as: books, kitchen items, glass and breakables. Medium and large boxes: Medium-light items such as: clothes, sheets and pillows. Wardrobe boxes: Odd shaped items, hanging clothes and other large light-weight items.
3) Glass and fragile items. These kinds of items require special attention and wrapping to keep them safe. Packing paper and bubble wrap should be used in order to keep them safe.
4) Lack of packing paper. Every box needs to have every available space stuffed with packing paper- no matter what the size is. This crucial part of packing is often overlooked by most people throughout the moving process. If items can shift within the box a packed box then they may break. Use packing paper to make sure that each box is completely stuffed full. This helps maintain the it integrity of the box from and allows it to be stacked without crushing
